How to Set Up Google Search Console on a Wix Site

If your website is not in Google Search Console, you are guessing. Search Console is Google's free tool that shows whether your pages are indexed, which searches bring people to your site and what needs fixing. On Wix, the setup takes about 15 minutes.

This guide shows two ways to connect your Wix site to Google Search Console, how to check your sitemap, how to ask Google to index a new page and which reports to watch. We connected Blog Spotlight Weekly to Search Console at launch, and requesting indexing for each new article is now part of our publishing routine. If your site is not live yet, start with our guide to building a website with Wix without coding.

How to set up Google Search Console on a Wix site

Before you start: check the basics

According to the Wix Help Center, your site needs to meet these conditions before Google can verify it:

  • A Premium (upgraded) Wix plan with a connected domain, bought from Wix or from another provider.

  • A published site. Google can only index published pages.

  • Indexing turned on in your SEO settings, under "Let search engines index your site".

  • A public homepage, not password protected or members-only.

  • A Google account you will keep for the business, ideally the same one you use for Google Analytics.

Google Search Console on Wix in five steps: check the basics, connect or verify, check the sitemap, request indexing, watch the reports

Option 1: Connect through the Wix SEO Setup Checklist

This is the easiest route. Wix has a built-in SEO Setup Checklist in your dashboard, and one of its steps connects your site to Google: you sign in with your Google account, approve access and Wix handles the verification. According to Wix, when you connect through the checklist it also submits your sitemap to Google, and the sitemap updates itself whenever you change your site.

  1. In your Wix dashboard, open SEO & GEO and find the SEO Setup Checklist.

  2. Answer the short questions about your business if Wix asks for them.

  3. Go to the step that connects your site to Google and sign in with your Google account.

  4. Approve the permissions and return to Wix. The step should now show as completed.

If the connection breaks later, for example after you change your Google password, Wix shows a Reconnect Now option so you can authorize it again.

Option 2: Verify manually with a meta tag

Use this route if you prefer to add the site yourself in Search Console, or if the checklist connection does not work.

  1. Go to Google Search Console, click Start now and sign in.

  2. Choose the URL prefix property type and enter your full address, including https://www (for example, https://www.yourdomain.com).

  3. Under the verification methods, expand HTML tag and copy the meta tag. Leave the tab open.

  4. In your Wix dashboard, go to SEO & GEO, scroll to Tools and settings, open Site Verification, paste the tag in the Google Search Console field and click Save.

  5. Back in Search Console, click Verify.

Keep the tag in place: Google checks it from time to time, and removing it can cost you the verification. If you verify this way, you can ignore the Google step in the SEO Setup Checklist even if it still shows as not completed.

Step 3: Check your sitemap

Wix creates your sitemap automatically, and you can see it at yourdomain.com/sitemap.xml. If you verified manually, submit it once: in Search Console, open Sitemaps, type sitemap.xml under "Add a new sitemap" and click Submit. After a while, the status should show Success.

Step 4: Ask Google to index new pages

Each time you publish an important page or article, you can ask Google to crawl it:

  1. Copy the full URL of the page, including https://www.

  2. Paste it into the search bar at the top of Search Console (the URL inspection tool) and press Enter.

  3. If the page is not indexed yet, click Request indexing.

A request is not a guarantee. Google decides when, and whether, to index a page, and it can take from a few days to a few weeks. Requesting the same URL again and again does not make it faster.

Step 5: The reports worth checking every week

Six Google Search Console reports worth knowing: Performance, URL inspection, Pages, Sitemaps, Core Web Vitals and Links
  • Performance: clicks, impressions, average position and the searches that show your pages.

  • Pages: which pages are indexed and why others are not, with reasons such as "Crawled, currently not indexed".

  • Sitemaps: confirms that Google read your sitemap and how many pages it found.

  • URL inspection: the detailed view of a single page.

  • Core Web Vitals: real-world speed and stability. It only fills in once a site has enough visitors.

  • Links: the sites that link to you and your most linked pages.

New sites often show very little data in the first weeks. That is normal: keep publishing useful pages and check that each new one gets indexed.

Common problems and how to fix them

  • Verification failed: make sure you pasted the Google tag (a Bing tag will not work) and that the site is published with the domain connected. Then click Verify again.

  • Wrong Google account: sign out of all Google accounts, sign in with the right one and connect again.

  • Lost connection: after a Google password change, use Reconnect Now in Wix.

  • Pages discovered but not indexed: usually a matter of time and page quality. Link to the page from your other articles and make sure it answers a real question.

  • Protected homepage: remove the password or members-only setting before you verify.

Bonus: Bing Webmaster Tools in two minutes

Bing Webmaster Tools can import your verified sites straight from Google Search Console, so you do not have to verify again. It is worth doing once, because Bing results also appear in other services, such as Yahoo.

The bottom line

Search Console is free, takes minutes to set up on Wix and turns guesswork into data. Connect it once, confirm your sitemap, request indexing for each important new page and check the Pages and Performance reports every week. It will not make Google rank you, but it will show you what works and what needs fixing.
